Waxing & Hair Removal

Waxing & Hair Removal

The benefits of a traditional facial in an untraditional area. Vajacial and intimate skincare is for anyone who has an intimate body part. This area is traditionally forgotten about when we think of skincare, but with it being one of the most absorbent areas on our body, we can help soothe and treat any skin concerns for those who need it.

Before your appointment try to exfoliate the area 1-2 days that is being waxed. This will help remove any dead skin cells and result in a better wax. Wear loose clothing to the appointment to avoid any chaffing afterwards.

After your appointment, your skin may be sensitive following your wax. Avoid touching at all costs. Your follicle is still open and is susceptible to more bacteria. Any red bumps or irritation should subside within 24-48hrs each clients reaction is different. Avoid sun exposure/tanning, sexual intercourse, working out, hot baths/hot tubs, heavy lotions, and exfoliation for 48 hours following your service.

Does waxing hurt?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but you can expect a short, stinging sensation after the strip is pulled. If you are worried about being sensitive, taking ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment should minimize your discomfort (consult with your physician before taking medications). Continuous waxing causes finer and less hair therefore waxing becomes less painful.

What kind of wax do you use?

I only use a hard wax that shrink wraps and hardens around the hair and lifts from the skin creating a less painful removal. It is quicker and cleaner than traditional soft wax.

How long does my hair need to be to wax?

At least the size of a grain of rice or 10-12 days of no shaving. If the hair is not long enough you may be sent home without performing the service. Trying to wax too short of hair can cause irritation and not give the desired results.

How long will I be hair free?

Everyone’s regrowth is different, typically 2-3 weeks if you had the correct length of hair. I recommend coming in every 4-6 weeks to keep the hair thin, short and the wax at minimal discomfort.

What medications should I be aware of?

There are many medications that affect skin and skin integrity (glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, vitamin A, prescribed exfoliating scrubs, antibiotics, hormonal medications, bloodthiners, radiation and/or chemotherapy drugs). Please consult with your physician in regards to any medications and how it may affect your waxing experience. Clients who are using accutane/isotretinoin cannot, under any circumstances, wax until they have discontinued use for at least six months. Waxing while taking accutane can result in dramatic tearing of the skin because it is so compromised by this medication.

How long is the appointment?

For a first time wax 15-30 minutes. Coming in regularly leads to a quicker and less painful wax each time.

I want to wax for a special occasion, any advice?

When waxing for a special occasion, the most important thing is that you wax at least twice before the big event. Everyone is different, and while reactions are rare, you don’t want to find out that you have a reaction to waxing the day before your wedding!

Will I experience irritation from waxing?

Yes. This answer varies from person to person. Some experience a slight redness and tingling sensation similar to a sunburn for a few hours up to 48 hours. Those who have coarse hair can also experience raised bumps around the follicle (Histamine reaction) and redness up to 48 hrs.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs?

Ingrown hairs are thin hairs that cannot push through the skin resulting in inflammation. The best way to prevent is to gently exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a scrub or exfoliating glove. Also moisturizing is imperative, it keeps the skin hydrated and healthy in between services. I have a variety of products available to recommend for after care during your service.
